An icon graced the cover of the November 1972 issue of TIME Magazine. Though not a politician, nor a movie star, this phenomenon was well-known and well-loved in households all across America. Proudly displayed on the cover was a bottle of Gallo Family Vineyards Hearty Burgundy, a paragon of the booming California wine industry. In the feature, the wine was called “the best wine value in the country today” and has been credited for putting American wines on the map. The visionary wine marketing endeavors of brothers Ernest & Julio Gallo brought an American wine with humble beginnings to iconic status. Today, the California wine industry has evolved into a world-class presence, but its roots are still firmly planted in Modesto. To celebrate the golden 50th anniversary of Hearty Burgundy, Gallo Family Vineyards has produced a 1.5 liter limited edition bottle that pays homage to the original flavor profile and the undisputed value, that helped put wine on America’s dinner table.  Adorned with a gold label and 50th anniversary seal, the limited release blend was crafted in consultation with Hearty Burgundy’s original winemakers. It just goes to show that an enterprising spirit is timeless, and value always trumps trend. Happy 50th Birthday to Hearty Burgundy.
