Housed in the wonderfully ornate 1927 United Artists Theatre and office building, the Ace Hotel, Los Angeles is SoCal’s outpost of the famously hip hotel brand that is known for their cool mix of old and new. Modern furnishings and wall pencil drawings (Snoop Dog portrait, anyone?) update the interior but still look perfectly at home in the historic setting. A fashionable set fills LA Chapter, the Brooklyn-esque first floor restaurant, but the real scene is 13 floors up at the appropriately dubbed rooftop bar Upstairs. Grab a cocktail from the well-crafted list and drink in the twinkling downtown skyline. Check the calendar for music and film shows at the magnificent Spanish Gothic theater that the Ace restored.
