Recently we featured the unique partnerships of Wood’s Maple Syrup with two distilleries. Their alcohol infused syrups are a huge hit, but what about what happens when those barrels are returned to the distilleries?

At Tuthilltown Distillery, after they have received their used Hudson Whiskey barrels back, they finish off a small selection of rye in these sticky sweet used casks resulting in their seasonal release of Tuthilltown Hudson Maple Cask Rye Whiskey. Every year they quickly run out of this limited edition spirit. It’s easy to see why, the traditional rye character is never lost, but it does gain a new layer of flavor thanks to the maple syrup. The whiskey is sultry and decadent with the perfect touch of maple. Hudson Maple Cask Rye Whiskey is a sweet treat on its own but also serves exceptionally well in a special Old Fashioned:

Maple Old Fashioned

  • 5 oz Hudson Maple Cask Rye
  • 5 oz Oloroso sherry
  • 1 tsp Wood’s bourbon barrel aged maple syrup
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • Canadian bacon garnish
