Sometimes you just don’t like the flavor of the whiskey you crack open. Perhaps there’s too much oak, or maybe you find yourself wanting a little more smokiness. Once upon a time, you were stuck with what was in the bottle. But now, a new product out of Oregon called Whiskey Elements allows you to influence the taste profile. These small staves of flavored wood are dropped into your bottle of whiskey for a minimum of 24 hours and—voila!—they impart an oaky flavor into your liquor. It isn’t magic that does this, but rather a slick scientific approach called “accelerated transpiration through capillary action.” We just call it yummy.
