Drop that bottle opener, and back away from the corkscrew, there’s a new WineSociety in town! WineSociety.com is the brainchild of Angela and Austin Allison, founded through a lifetime of experience and observation. Their mission is to make quality wine more approachable and convenient, allowing the consumer to focus on the important things in life. Wine in a can may seem like a novelty idea, but there is an even greater story behind the why.

“My husband, Austin, and I noticed that wine in California was being consumed in a way that was integrative to daily life, compared to the way people drank it in the Midwest, where we grew up,” says co-founder Angela Allison. Our takeaway was that for most people, wine was expensive, intimidating and unapproachable.”

The couple’s combined entrepreneurial mindset, allowed the duo to seize the opportunity to revolutionize the way people bought and drank wine. By canning premium wine, WineSociety.com allows people to easily take it to the beach, on a hike, or to the pool without having to think twice about openers, or glass breakage.

“The next generation of wine drinkers are looking for an eco-friendly component, something that is flexible and a product that can literally be taken with them, wherever they may go,” says Angela.

WineSociety.com is creating a community of like-minded individuals who all share the same passion: quality wine that is convenient. There are a plethora of ‘why’s’ behind the can, from the lightweightedness of the vessel to the fact that it has a hermetic seal that blocks out any oxygen and therefore keeps the wine as fresh as the day it was poured. The cans are unbreakable, chill faster than bottles, and take up less room in a cooler bag. Plus there is no risk of cork taint, and the can itself can be fully recycled, therefore proving to be a renewable resource.

Wait for it, there is more; the power couple chose to can the wine in 500ml measures, and the reasoning is actually quite poetic. Taking their lead from their Italian friends, 500ml is equal to a ½ carafe which is commonly served in Europe – just the right amount to share.

Considering that wine is an age-old beverage, what Angela and Austin are doing is fairly new, and not without its positive challenges.

“When we first launched, there weren’t many companies or vineyards that were offering canned wine, and none were offering premium quality wine in a can. We jumped at the opportunity to be on the forefront of this developing trend in the beverage industry. Our target audience was open-minded to try a new way of consuming premium quality wine, and we knew we had what it took to be a leader in an antiquated industry.” Angela Allison

WineSociety.com is continuingly building a community of like-minded people who simply want to sit back, relax and pop open a can of a really good wine.
