Nestled next to the Stockton Tunnel only a few blocks away from San Francisco’s Union Square there is a historic hotel that has one of the city’s best kept secrets, the Burritt Room + Tavern. This isn’t just your run of the mill old hotel and bar, The Mystic Hotel has survived BOTH major earthquakes in the city. Walking into the hotel lobby, which has kept its film noir décor, you know you’re in for a treat as you walk up the red carpet toward the restaurant and bar.

With a prohibition style and dark lighting, this spot really highlights a true speakeasy.  Burritt Room is sophisticated, mysterious, and sexy all at the same time boasting dark wood floors, red couches, and crystal chandeliers. Unlike it’s similar San Francisco counterparts, all the night I’ve camped out at the bar, the rest of the patrons, as well as the bartenders, seem to dress the part. You’re basically walking on to the set of Roman Polanski’s Chinatown and it doesn’t feel forced or cheesy at all.

Moving on to the drinks, The Burritt Room offers a wide range of original and classic craft cocktails that won my heart, as well as my palate. Their Berlinetta is the first that comes to my mind and is everything you can ask for in a cocktail for the whiskey lover in everyone with a mouthwatering balance bourbon, cynar, carpano antica, and orange bitters using a beautiful giant ice cube. It was definitely a fantastic sipping cocktail I could easily order all evening.

So what makes the Burritt Room + Tavern the sexiest hotel bar in San Francisco?  After a careful review of about a dozen bars, this one was the one that kept going to the top of my list. The atmosphere is simply stunning and provides that intimacy you need for a hot date or catching up with friends. The bartenders are truly amazing and can really rock a vintage look and make a sexy cocktail to boot. The patrons are mellow and you won’t have to scream over anyone at any point of the evening. They also feature numerous events to keep you coming back for more including weekly live jazz on Thursdays, various art series, and other fun events you can check out on their calendar. Burritt Room has become my newest love interest that I can’t help but come running back to.
