The Bombay Sapphire Distillery, located in Hampshire, England in an old paper mill, opened to the public for the first time on October 1 after a four-year refurbishment. Visitors can now tour the distillery, learn about the gin’s history, take a bartending master class, or simply sip Sapphire at the new Mill Bar along the River Test, 60 miles from London. With Master Distiller Nik Fordham helming the distillery’s vapor infusion distillation, the 2,500-square-meter Edwardian and Victorian distillery showcases the gin’s ten essential botanicals –juniper, lemon peel, grains of paradise, coriander, cubeb berries, orris root, almonds, cassia bark, liquorice, and angelica –inside impressive glass houses. Beyond the booze, the building is also the first distillery in the world to score an “Outstanding” rating for sustainable design from the environmental assessor BREEAM.
