Emily, nestled in Clinton Hill conveniently across the street from the A & C trains, takes its name from the Mrs. of husband-and-wife team Matt and Emily Hyland. On a recent visit, a proudly smiling Emily was making her way through rustic wooden tables in the narrow restaurant to present pies to happy guests.

The restaurant serves a variety of innovative pizzas categorized into “The Reds” (tomato sauce), “The Whites” (sauceless), “The Green” (tomatillo) and “The Pink” (vodka sauce). The most popular pie parading to tables appeared to be “The Colony”, a seemingly odd, but very delicious combination of sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, pickled chili and honey. The spicy, sweet, salty, savory thing just works without any ingredient overpowering any other. And despite being a pizza joint, the Emmy Burger on a pretzel bun is a must-order. Share it if need be.

Emily offers a variety of cocktails, beers and wines, including wines on tap. A quartino of red Bordeaux for a very reasonable $12 and you’re all set.

Insider Tip: Emily doesn’t take reservations for less than 6 people, but walk nearby to Hot Bird, an auto shop turned beer joint, while you wait for your table and they’ll call when it’s ready.
