With a warm welcome to the new kid on the block from the PlumpJack Group, we give you Forgery. From behind the bar of their new space, where rustic meets post-industrial architecture, Jacques Bezuidenhout and Ken Luciano have been shaking up a storm since opening their giant wooden door to the public in May of this year. Located in the rapidly evolving mid-market neighborhood, Forgery finds a diverse crowd of industry folk, tech gurus and everything in between.
According to Ken and Jacques, who have worked together at both PlumpJack and Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, their goal with this project was to create a space that is what their idea of a neighborhood bar is. Where anyone can walk in and feel welcome while being introduced to a plethora of eclectic cocktail recipes that they may have never thought possible – such as tequila with German Riesling. That being said, instead of geeking too far down the rabbit hole of craft spirits, these guys wanted to offer a little bit of everything – which is validated when you see their back bar.
So as this neighborhood continues to build an identity for itself, Forgery will be there along for the ride to see what the future holds. In the meantime, head over there for a delicious concoction or sip on something neat –for those of you craving some calvados, this might just be the place for you. And if you’re not in good spirits for…good spirits, their menu also offers an extensive list of wine and both local and imported beer.
Here are some of my favorites:
Cumin infused Ketel One Vodka, Manzanilla Sherry, Passionfruit
The cumin shines through this sinfully delicious cocktail while the sherry brings on the mouthwatering acidity. And it just looks so darn cute.
Partida Blanco Tequila, Dr. Loosen Riesling, Lemon, Laphroaig, Egg White
Its incredibly creamy texture is spiced up by hints of smoke while the Riesling seamlessly decorates the midpalate.
Fidencio Unico Mezcal, Manzanilla Sherry, Crème de Cassis, Salt
The juicy cassis is wonderfully matched by aspects of smoke, yeast and salt. Quite an intriguing cocktail, this soothing elixir is the perfect nightcap.
