Celebrate dry January with an alternative approach to mixology. On the 21st January 2016 The Bermondsey Square Hotel will host the Inaugural Alfresco Cup. Taking part amongst others will be premier mixologists Martin Bilsborough from The Gotham Manchester and Kim Hilditch from Flitwick Manor. Their challenge will be to create an outstanding mocktail. Coca Cola Enterprises have generously donated prize money with the winner set to receive £500 to incentivise the participants into creating the most unusual and delicious mocktail. Whoever takes home the prize money will leave behind the recipe to their mouth-watering creation, which will make its way on to the menu at the property.
The Bermondsey Square Hotel is a 90-room property in trendy South London. Recently refurbished, the lounge and dining area has a relaxed and spacious feel. With unusual artwork throughout, the space is perfect for the Inaugural Alfresco Mocktail Cup event offering a relaxed and friendly atmosphere for guests to relax and watch the mixologists at work.
The judge of this unique event is Thomas Soden of Sweet & Chilli, who has been working within bars for over 16 years having tended in some of the world’s top venues such as Milk & Honey and Trailer Happiness. In addition to this he owns 2 bars in London, Cecil’s in London Bridge & The Gunmakers in Clerkenwell. When quizzed on what he will be looking for in a winning concoction Thomas said, “Naturally I’ll be looking for balance within the drink, whether light or heavy, the drink must move effortlessly from nose, body & finish. I enjoy interesting & contrasting flavour pairings, something a little different but overly challenging in taste.”
He will be judging the creations of high flying mixologists from around the UK including:
Victor Khumo from The Welcombe Hotel Stratford-on-Avon, Robert Merjavy & Kamal Daghistani from Queen Hotel Chester, Adam Kerr from Hallmark Stourport Manor, Martin Bilsborough from The Gotham Manchester and Kim Hilditch from Flitwick Manor.
The Alfresco Mocktail Cup will be open to guests and non-residents to enjoy. For those who want to continue their evening in style, the newly refurbished terraced suites will also be available to pre book.
