Maipo Valley provides a fantastic terroir that is ideal for growing Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon especially at the highest area of Maipo Alto where the original estate the Quinta de Maipo vineyard is located. Over the years, Viña Maipo has expanded its operation to other main regions of the country so beside Maipo Valley there are three others: Casablanca Valley, Rapel Valley and Maule Valley.

Now at Maipo Valley, Vinos de Origen wines are made from the best vines of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. That combined with the terroir of its exceptional climate and three different soil types gives birth to a wide range of lines.

The 2012 Limited Edition “Handpicked” Syrah has a varietal composition of 97% Syrah and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Its appellation is Quinta de Maipo vineyard in the Maipo Valley. This wine has aged 30 months in French oak barrels and has an aging potential of 10 years. With an alcohol content of 14.5% it is best serve at 15-18°C. The wine has deep red and violet color tones with elegant fruit aromas of blackberries, cherries and delicate notes of tobacco, chocolate and cinnamon, the palate is overall sweet with elegant tannins and bright acidity giving it depth and freshness. Best with pork, lamb and mature cheeses. $35

The 2013 Protegido Cabernet Sauvignon is of the Quinta de Maipo vineyard in Maipo Valley as well. It was aged 20 months in barrel and has an aging potential of 10 to 12 years. Also with an alcohol content of 14.5% it is best serve at 15-18°C. With a bright, deep ruby color, it has a wide range of fruit aromas, spices and delicate hints of tobacco and chocolate. The palate is perfectly balanced between the elegance and the power of the tannins, which provides a long finish and harmonious acidity. It is ideal for red meats and cheeses like Gruyere or Edam. $50

Currently, only the Protegido is available in the US, the rest of the Viña Maipo wines are currently seeking distribution in the US.
