This small and unique parcel released by Yalumba from the depths of their seemingly infinite cellar, really showcases the best of Australian fortified wine. Made from the red and pink Muscat variety this wine exhibits absolutely everything you would want to find in a fortified wine and to an exceptional standard too!

Rich, dense and unctuous, with an incredibly warming alcohol heat that belies this wine’s elegance; an oxidative, yet subtly floral nose of raisin, hazelnut, butterscotch and a distinctive, albeit background note of burnt caramel. Christmas pudding in the mouth, with dates, raisin and vanilla and sublime tertiary flavours; beautiful balance, a wonderful character and linear acidity. You may find the sweetness a little cloying at first, but it settles quickly and a good chilling (10-12’c) helps keep this in check. Powerful and intense, yet elegant and with a persistent lingering finish.

It seems maturation for eight years in French oak puncheons has just the perfect influence on this particularly sweet Muscat, making for a well-rounded and exquisite wine to pair with any blue cheese or a whole host of puddings; personally I think salted caramel cheesecake, Madagascan vanilla cream and freeze dried raspberries would be the perfect partner in crime. An absolute steal at this price point!
